Suzanne E. Velzy, age 80 of Gowanda State Road passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at home surrounded by family.
Born in Gowanda, NY Suzanne E. Gartner, the daughter of Paul and Nellie (Hoffman) Gartner March 1, 1935.
Suzanne married Walter Velzy at the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Gowanda on March 2, 1957, Walter survives. Suzanne and her husband ran Velzy's Service next to their home for many years. She was a three-time finalist in the Pillsbury Baking Contest in the 70s and 80s which took her to Phoenix, Boston and San Diego competing. Suzanne was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a member of St. Joseph's RC Church in Gowanda.
Surviving besides her husband of 58 years are three children, Wendy (Drew) Taber of Newfane, Kevin (Laurie) Velzy of Oswego and Diane Scherer of Lakeview; grandchildren Sarah (Greg), Adam, Jonathan, Mathew, Danielle, William, Wendie and Matthew; and sisters, Patricia (Donald) Lichtenthal of The Villages, Fla. and Camille (John) Godwin of Brooklyn. Nieces and Nephews also survive.
Friends may call at the Schindler Funeral Home, 44 Center St., Gowanda (716) 532-4200 on Thursday, April 16 from 3 to 7 p.m., and Friday, April 17 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m., from the St. Joseph's RC Church, 90 E. Main St., Gowanda (assemble at church). Interment to follow in the Brant Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
