Eleanor L. Weigle, age 89, of Fredonia, NY died Thursday, June 23, 2016 at home. She was born in Colfax, IN on November 12, 1926 to the late Walter and Fairy (Riley) Moore.
She graduated from Klondike High School in West Lafayette, IN. She went on to graduate from a three-year nursing program at Home Hospital in Lafayette. As an RN, she worked as a surgical nurse at Home Hospital and Lebanon Hospital in Indiana.
On August 1, 1954, she married Jack L. Weigle. While starting a family, they moved to many different states while Jack was finishing his education. They finally settled in Ames, IA, where they lived for over 25 years. Eleanor continued to work at various jobs while her children were growing up. Even so, she still found time to make cookies for her children to enjoy after school. After Jack and "El" retired, they moved to Fredonia to be close to grandchildren.
"El" had many hobbies and interest. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, shopping, jigsaw puzzles, and word puzzles. She liked ceramics and even won awards for her pieces. She also enjoyed gardening and gambling -- as long as it was only the nickel slots. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She always had a travel mug of coffee in one hand and a "Little Debbie" snack cake in the other. "El" loved her multiple trips to the Frozen Penguin.
Besides her parents, Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, Jack Weigle, to whom she was married for 46 years; her siblings, Martha, Ellen "Sue," Ruth, Phil, and Bud. She is survived by her children, Lori Willeford, Timothy Weigle, Pamela Weigle and Jeffery Weigle; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Christopher; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Squirt.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please think of all the good times you had with "El."
