Harlen H. Quackenbush

Harlen H. Quackenbush, 90 years old, of Absolut of Westfield and formerly of Florida, passed away early Friday afternoon, June 24, 2016 at Absolut of Westfield with his family at his side.

Harlen was born in Dunkirk, NY on February 22, 1926 and was the son of the late Eddie and Beatrice Main Quackenbush. Before moving to Florida, he had lived in this area his entire life. Harlen was a 1944 graduate of Forestville High School and worked as a laborer and foreman for The National Labor Union in Buffalo.

He was a World War II veteran, serving his country in the United States Army as a tank driver, participating in the Battle of The Bulge and also served in France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. Harlen was a former Commander of the VFW of Fredonia, New York. He also loved to renovate homes and was a great tinker and gadgetman.

Harlen also was a professional clarinet player at one time in New York City. He loved music and he loved to sing.

Harlen is survived by two daughters, Roxanne Fisk of Fredonia, NY and Brenda (Paul) Hannold of Portland, NY; one son, Dean (Saragrace) Quackenbush of Buckeye, AZ; three stepsons, Steve Swanson of Tennessee, Burl (Vicky) Swanson of Dewittville, NY and Ed (Nancy) Swanson of Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Wilma J. Robinson Quackenbush; his second wife, Phyllis I. Quackenbush; two daughters, Debra J. Hazelton and Becky K. Kent; one son, Glen G. Quackenbush; one granddaughter, Ann Marie Koivu; and one sister, Maderial Quackenbush.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 28 from the Morse Funeral Home in Brocton, NY. Rev. Don Carlson will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave. from 7-9 pm on Monday, June 27 and from 10-11 am on Tuesday morning, one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery, where full Military Honors will be accorded to Harlen by The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton.
