Warren J. Chase

Warren J. Chase, 90, formerly of Cassadaga, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing in Gerry. He was born January 3, 1926 in the Town of Arkwright, a son of the late Stephen and Una May Christy Chase.

A Chautauqua County resident most of his life, he was a graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1943 and Bryant and Stranton College in 1947.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force with the 20th Division as a sergeant with the 44th Bombardment Squadron.

After being employed as a public accountant in banking, and seasonally as a scale master for Welch's, Warren was self-employed as an insurance agent from 1948 operating Warren Chase Insurance, and in 1958, changing to Central Chautauqua Agency until his retirement in 1988.

Warren was a former Stockton Town Supervisor and Town Justice. He was a former member of the Cassadaga Community Baptist Church and had served as treasurer and trustee, was active in Salvation Army, I.O.F. in Cassadaga and Fredonia, Villenova and Fredonia granges, a charter member of the Cassadaga Valley Kiwanis Club and served as vice president, president, and was honored as Kiwanian of the Year in 2002.

He was a former member of the New York State Mutual Agents Association, 58th Wing of the 20th Air Force and charter member of the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280 and supportive of Disabled American Veterans. He loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

Husband of 57 years to the late Florence C. Mathewson Chase, whom he married December 6, 1948, and who died August 29, 2005; father of Allen S. (Deborah) Chase of Cassadaga, Scott W. (Wendy) Chase of Randolph, and Lynne (T. Edward) Gish of Peyton, CO; grandfather of Matthew (Sarah), Nicole, Kayleane, Lindsey Chase, Jennifer (William) Smith and Patrick (Brianna) Sieck; great-grandfather of two, with an additional one on the way; brother of the late Harriet McIntyre, Justine Johnson, Walter, Albert and Millard Chase; and brother-in-law of Gerald N. (Karen) Mathewson of Fredonia. Also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280, 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga.
