It is with great sadness that the family of Jose "Cheo" Salgado, 73, of Dunkirk announces his sudden passing. Jose died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Brooks Memorial Hospital surrounded by loved ones following a brief illness. He was born October 26, 1943 in Morovis, Puerto Rico, the son of Agustin and the late Anastacia (Clas) Salgado.
Mr. Salgado, a resident of Dunkirk for most of his life, was employed by Alumax in Dunkirk and the Carriage House in Fredonia.
He enjoyed playing la guitarra and el cuatro while surrounded by family and friends.
Jose was preceded in death by his mother, Anastacia (Clas) Salgado. Survivors include his father, Agustin Salgado of Morovis, Puerto Rico; an only son, Joseph (Lisa) Grubb; his life companion, Karen O'Connell; four brothers, Feliciano (Noelia) Salgado and Juan (Diane) Salgado, both of Dunkirk, Julio (Olga) Salgado and Hector Salgado, both of Morovis, Puerto Rico; two grandchildren, Braden and Adrienne Grub; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 3 at 12 noon in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Pastor Pablo Alvira will officiate. Calling hours will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, two hours prior to the service, in the funeral home. Flowers gratefully declined.
