David M. Herlong, 73, of Dunkirk died peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, surrounded by his family. Born December 1, 1943 to the late Zachie and Pearl Herlong in Columbia, LA.
David was a longtime engineer for Bechtel Corporation, working throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. He was an avid traveler and journeyman who loved nothing more than to drive the countryside and explore the backroads, looking for a new adventure and maybe even signature dish that he could cook for friends and family. He also really enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, kayaking and talking about his younger days as a baseball and basketball star growing up in Louisiana.
David is survived by his two sons, David Herlong of Las Vegas, NV and Michael Herlong of Fredonia; Charlotte Herlong of Dunkirk; sister, Linda Herlong and brother, Clay Nolan, both of Louisiana; Aunt Nora Herlong of Houston, TX; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Sue Medlin.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, March 26 at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia from 6-8 p.m., followed by prayers with Father Dan Walsh at 8 p.m.
