David E. Burlingame, Sr., 81, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, December 30, 2023. He was born to William and Blanche (Duncan) Burlingame on September 18, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of Dunkirk.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Rae Perry; sons, David E. (Amy) Burlingame, Jr., Kevin Burlingame and Eric (JoieLyn) Burlingame; ex-wife, Linda Burlingame; estranged daughter-in-law and caregiver, Candy Sears; grandchildren, Quintin Burlingame, Brennan Burlingame, Payton (Michelle) Burlingame, Timothy (April) LeBarron, Jr., Christopher (Abby) Sears, Danyal (James) Dickerson, Dylan Burlingame, Erica (Juan) Fred, Ashley Burlingame, Dalton Burlingame, Bailiegh Burlingame and Dustin Robinson; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
David was a Boatswain Chief Petty Officer in the Navy, serving active duty for two years and retired from the Navy Reserves after 31 years of service. He worked for the New York State Thruway Authority, retiring with 35 years.
David was involved in Boy Scouts of America for years and has three grandsons that earned their Eagle Scout rankings.
David was a life member as a volunteer fireman with the East Town of Dunkirk. He was also Director and Vice President of the VFPSNY and also Director at Large. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1017 in Dunkirk and American Legion Post 434 in Brocton, a past member of the Navy Ship Club Post 6472 in Silver Creek, the Chautauqua County Fire Police Response Team, and Past President and Team Captain of the Chautauqua County Volunteer Fire Police Association.
David also enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing, was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a NASCAR fan.
Services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the East Town Dunkirk Fire Dept, 10949 South Roberts Road in Dunkirk. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the East Town Dunkirk Fire Department or Chautauqua County Fire Police Association.
Arrangements are by the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk.
